Recovery After Breast Implant Removal (Explantation)

Recovery following breast implant removal, or explantation, is a period where the body adjusts to the loss of volume and the internal tissues begin to heal. The procedure often involves a total capsulectomy, where the scar tissue capsule is removed alongside the implant. While the operation typically takes two to three hours under general anaesthetic, the post-operative weeks are a necessary time for the skin and breast tissue to adapt to their natural contour.

• The First 24 Hours: Most patients stay in the hospital for one night for clinical monitoring. Dr Victoria utilises advanced techniques that do not require surgical drains, which often makes the initial day more comfortable. • Weeks 1–2: You should plan for 1 to 2 weeks away from work. During this time, it is normal to experience mild swelling or bruising. Driving is typically possible after 10 to 14 days, once you can safely perform an emergency stop without chest discomfort.
