Recovery After Breast Augmentation Surgery

Recovery is the period required for your body to heal and for you to return to your normal routine. While the surgical phase is brief, the post-operative weeks are a structured process where the tissues adapt to the new implants. Following clinical instructions during this time is a necessary part of reaching a stable and comfortable result.

Dr Victoria Teoh provides a detailed aftercare programme to manage your comfort and monitor your progress through these distinct phases:

• • The First 24 Hours: Most patients stay in the hospital for one night for clinical monitoring. Dr Victoria uses advanced techniques that do not require surgical drains, which often makes the initial day more comfortable. It is normal for the chest to feel tight or sore, similar to the sensation of an intense muscle workout.
  • Weeks 1–2: You should plan for 1 to 2 weeks away from work, depending on the physical nature of your role. Driving is typically possible after 10 to 14 days, once you can safely perform an emergency stop without chest pain.
  • The Settling Process: Initially, breast implants sit higher on the chest wall. Over the following weeks, the implants undergo a natural settling process often called “drop and fluff”, where they move into a natural position and the breast tissue softens.

• Bra & Exercise Protocol:
• • A surgical compression bra is worn for the first 3 weeks, followed by a supportive sports bra for the next 3 weeks.
  • While light lower-body activity may begin earlier following clinical advice, you must avoid strenuous upper-body exercise for 3 months to allow the internal tissues to heal.
• Long-term Healing: While the initial recovery is complete within weeks, surgical scars undergo a maturation period. They may appear red or raised at first before gradually flattening and fading over 12 to 18 months.
